TUE 3 JUN

    • Met Dr Stef (Director, Johannes Hospital)

      • Areas of priority Indonesian Ministry of Health includes Cardiovascular Health and Stroke Care, Oncology and Maternal & Child Health; areas where FOHG are already involved in

      • Request by the NTT Provincial Governor to meet FOHG team in a future visit

    • Microbiology Lab: doing well with Dr Fidri supervising

      • Small audit of results

        • Suggestions for improvement: care with reporting sample sites & intrinsic resistance eg Pseudomonas vs Augmentin

      • CO2 incubator still not working despite attempts at repair from technicians from Jakarta

 

  • Red Cross Blood Transfusion Unit, Kupang branch

    • Successful series of visits from Perth Lifeblood Scientist, Lacie

    • Dr Samson request for further training on more advanced blood typing

      • Topic: Tuberculosis (in Bahasa Indonesia)

    • Recorded a podcast with the Poltekkes Media Unit on Tuberculosis

    • Met Love Family Scholarship recipients

    • Recent accreditation success partly attributed to assistance from FOHG

      • Lectures and Seminars

      • Program evaluation

      • Assistance with teaching materials – textbooks, mannequins

      • Multi-disciplinary Workshop relating to TB

 

    • Kupang City Public Health lab visit with program officers from the District Health Dept

      • Adi’s (Johannes Lab Micro analyst) wife is the manager

      • Discussions about syphilis serology testing

 

Initially this trip was planned to be a joint trip with Dr Richard Bradbury (Microbiology scientist, JCU and long time FOHG collaborator) for a Parasitology Workshop with Poltekkes and Undana. Unfortunately he had to cancel at the last minute.

 

Conclusions: Overall a successful trip. Laying the foundation for FOHG group visit in August 2025.
